Of Contagious Enthusiasm, Boundaries vs. Benefits & Musical Generosity

Contagious Enthusiasm

When introducing new repertoire, I’ve found that it’s not just my enthusiasm that’s contagious—it’s the curiosity we share.

Exploring the sounds that your students love at the piano often leads to surprising and joy-filled discoveries.

Boundaries vs. Benefits

Studio policies become more powerful when viewed through a lens of benefits rather than just boundaries.

Boundaries can sound defensive, but when you focus on how your policies support you, your team, and the families you serve, your communication becomes clearer—and more positive.

Musical Generosity

This spring, I’ve shifted from preparing students just for formal events— like recitals or festivals —to helping them get ready for everyday moments of musical generosity.

Whether it’s a friend’s house, Grandma’s living room, a street corner, or an airport piano, we’ve been choosing pieces they can joyfully share whenever they find a "piano in the wild".

It’s been a refreshing and motivating reframe.

What piece are you most likely to play if you find a "piano in the wild"?

Here's an opportunity for students to create their own arrangement of
Handel's Passacaglia and boost confidence for the next time they are invited to share music in spontaneous ways!
